The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (Parts 1 and 2) took effect from 28th September 2004. As a result, the Regional Spatial Strategy (formerly Regional Planning Guidance, RPG11) became part of the Statutory Development Plan, which will guide development across the West Midlands (2001-2021). The Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act (2004) abolished the Structure Plans and Local Plans, as of September 2004, although the Act provided for these plans to be 'saved' until September 2007. In Warwickshire, the following plans were 'saved' until September 2007:
